Although it may come as a surprise, Pacific Gateway Center, the non profit that serves recent immigrants to Hawaii, has opened a seasonal Christmas House inside its restaurant, Lemongrass Cafe. The store features crafts and culinary creations that make fabulous Christmas gifts, as well as yummy seasonal kitchen delights such as Chef Cooray’s curry mixes.

The Pacific Gateway Center is just a bit off the beaten track for First Fridays but it shouldn’t be. There’s a lot going on there, especially during First Fridays. This week, being the first Friday in October, Pacific Gateway Center will celebrate Oktoberfest with free German food and three local beers (not free, but reasonable).

Of course this month there was Andy South’s celebration of his family’s roots at the Pacific Gateway Center, a place were new immigrants can stand tall and get prepared for life in Hawaii.
