It’s been a long time since I found any shopping destination truly exciting, but today…..

ENTER SOUTH SHORE MARKET.

Kealopiko comes to South Shore Market.

Kealopiko comes to South Shore Market. Love some of their new prints!

At the media preview this morning I loved the ambiance, lighting, high ceilings, signage, imaginative selfie-opportunities, flooring, wall coverings – everything about South Shore Market feels right. But most of all, I love that it’s 100 percent locally owned. Every little cooperative and boutique is local.

I was so happy to see many of the designers from fishcake at the gallery’s new holiday pop-up. It’s called fishmarket and will be open from November 11 through January 31.

There you will find some of my favorite designers/retailers. Among them:

  • Rumi Murakami
  • Chelsea
  • m33ms
  • Echo + Atlas
  • Hawaiian Blue
M33Ms jewelry is among the pop-ups at fishmarket. Emiko's presentation is as sophisticated as her jewelry.

South Street Market, a brand-new retail concept in Honolulu, opens Friday, November 11, on the corner of Auahi Street and Queen Lane, beneath T.J. Maxx. It occupies 25,125 square feet. It was originally planned to be a Whole Foods, but we are told Whole Foods is a few years down the road, in another part of the 60-acre Ward Village.

Flotsam & Co. incorporates found materials (beach glass!) into jewelry. Fun, original stuff by Karen Sawicki, who found a lot of her materials while diving.

MORI by Art + Flea, Eden in Love, Big Bad Wolf, Cameron Hawaii and Salvage Public are among other offerings. La Muse, the artsy boutique in Chinatown, will open in December.

South Shore Market incorporates some fun art that is ideal for selfie-taking shoppers.

Shopping at South Shore Market will make it so much easier to follow my Wear Aloha edict: “I will not leave my house without wearing at least one thing that is made in Hawaii.”

Isn’t that an initiative we can all adopt?
