Lei Day in chinatown

When we think of May Day events, we tend to think of Kapiolani Park, a school auditorium,  or Honolulu Hale. But this year think:

Friday, May 1st

10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and 5 – 9 p.m.

Some Chinatown businesses have banded together to create an Art and Treasures Fair that will also feature Hawaiian food, a photo contest, Hawaiian music, beer, wine, a plant booth and a vintage photo booth.

The first-time fair is an ideal opportunity to shop for something unique and special for Mother’s Day. Among the vendors are:

  • Tokei Hawaii
  • Creations by Lori
  • Skinny Pig
  • Catherine’s Closet
  • Roy Venters
  • Mapuana Pouches

Lei plants will be the special feature of a plant booth. Hawaiian food and music will provide the appropriate Lei Day ambiance.

A photo contest will be kicked off during the festivities. There are three themes for the photos:

  1. Historic Chinatown
  2. Small business and creative entrepreneurs
  3. A Feast of the Senses

Photos will be projected on a large wall and winners will be announced. The original photos will be on display for two weeks in May at various locations around Chinatown. A map will be provided for those interested in viewing the original photos. Find more information at https://wwwcidchinatownhawaii.org/photo-contest-2015.html
