Casa Europa Stairwell

For many years, Jerry and I have had a favorite B & B in New Mexico: Casa Europa in Taos. We have stayed there numerous times, and, although the ownership/management has changed hands, we continue to love everything about it. We once rented the entire place for an art retreat with 15 friends from Honolulu.

The current owners, Joe and Lisa, have put it up for sale and we are praying someone will love Casa Europa – and care for it – as much.

One of the main reasons we love it is that the traditional New Mexico architecture, with the curvy adobe walls, vegas and tile floors, is our favorite architecture and interior design in the whole world.

Each room at Casa Europa is different and I think we have stayed in nearly every one. This trip we were in the Willow room, with its cozy fireplace and fabulous furnishing. Just look at this inviting bed:

This visit we had the entire B & B to ourselves until late at night, when a really nice couple from Colorado came. We made ourselves totally at home. I curled up on the living room couch and we watched the film “The Collector” (1965), starring Terrence Stamp, that Duncan had given use when we were in the Bay Area.

The living room is beautifully appointed and even has some terrific contemporary abstract art, which of course I love! The stairwell to the upstairs room is at the top of this blog. Isn’t it lovely?

In the past, we have not really chosen to stay long in Santa Fe. While we love the art and architecture, we had never found the right place to stay – where we felt comfortable and content – until this trip. We happened upon Il Faralito, a B & B that is extremely well run, offers amazing breakfasts every morning and fresh home baked cookies every afternoon.

And the décor is perfect!

It’s nice to know we will have the perfect place to stay next time we visit Santa Fe. We even got inspired to paint out in the patio!
