A couple of girlfriends going for the glam after the Nordstrom Trend Show.

If you’ve never been to one of Nordstrom‘s seasonal Beauty Trend Shows, I highly recommend you grab a girlfriend and go to one. It’s really a fun morning out

It’s a little like a traveling minstrel show, but the minstrels are all about beauty, makeup and skin care. This hardy band of makeup artists, makeup marketing folks and sales reps often travel as a group and the camaraderie among them in palpable. It makes the event even more fun.

Beautiful Alex Chantecaille, daughter of the founder of Chantecaille Beaute, spent time on the runway, on her way to Maui.

Hundreds of women attend the Trend Show and they are an effervescent audience, especially for 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning. The DJ, Paul Sullivan, is an enthusiastic host, while Nordstrom’s Regional Beauty Director, Joelle Russo, acts as a guide and emcee.

The three trends for the season, as identified by Nordstrom, are:

  • The Graphic Eye
  • The Redefined Smoky Eye
  • Bordeaux Lips

There was a mini fashion show that comprised four looks from Nordstrom’s racks. Black is back on their runway, paired with white or bold prints.

There’s always a lot of audience participation at the Beauty Trend Show, and generous give-aways. Women from the audience might get spritzed, smeared, scrubbed or scented by any of the vendors.

This brave audience member was such a good sport she didn’t mind getting smeared with Rodial’s Snake Mask and sitting through the entire presentation until it could dry and be peeled off.

Hylton Lea of Erno Laszlo used sex as an enticement for the audience of women. He asked one of the male models to strip off his shirt in order to demonstrate “The Splash” method to be used when cleansing with the brand’s eponymous cleaners.

Male models also came around with the Clarisonic cleansing device to show women how it felt on the back of their hand. Ummmmm…..

MidWeek fashion editor Yu Shing Ting tried out SK-II’s Facila Treatment Essence.

It wouldn’t be a bona fide beaute event without the requisite Frenchman. Enter Gregory Daniel, regional sales manager for diptyque. More about him – and diptyque – in an upcoming blog.

The Trend Show is an ideal platform to introduce new products, as well as seasonal specials and “made exclusively for Nordstrom” holiday gifts.  And of course you can walk off with loads of samples. If you want to have your makeup done by a specific brand, or if you would like a mini facial or other special treatment, it’s best to make an appointment.
