Hawaii Fashion Month (HFM) planning is moving right along now! As you may know, I am on the Steering Committee for HFM.

HFM’s Steering Committee is an ideal mix of private enterprise and government, business and fashion. This was not accidental. Hifi (Hawaii Fashion Incubator) co- founders Toby Portner and Melissa White have worked toward HFM for nearly seven years. They have thoughtfully and strategically brought individuals and companies on board with their goals and aspirations for the fashion industry in Hawaii.  Senator Will Espero and DBEDT’s Dennis Ling have been key strategists in procuring State funding and guiding Hifi in this exciting initiative.

Melissa invites broad participation in HFM: “The more that is happening in Hawaii fashion this October, the better. We want the local and visitor community to come away wowed by the diversity and level of talent that we have here in the islands, with a renewed commitment to supporting Hawaii fashion.”

Now it’s time for all of us to step up and support HFM. My blog will try to keep you informed of opportunities for involvement. In the meantime, here’s an “elevator speech” to help you discuss HFM with others:

“HFM is a community-driven initiative of the Hawaii Fashion Incubator and the State of Hawaii to promote and elevate all aspects of Hawaii’s fashion industry. Events  will showcase Hawaii fashion talent, educate the community on the promise of local fashion as a key driver of Hawaii’s economy, create industry camaraderie and collaboration, and provide a launching pad for new partnerships, initiatives, and businesses.”
