A couple of girls get creative in Kaimuki.

There’s a new community art studio with a mission of nurturing the creative potential in Honolulu keiki. It’s called Art Explorium and they offer Open Studio time when they set up different Art Stations and keiki (and parents!) can get creative. It’s a great opportunity for parents and their little ones to play and create together.

There’s also a sustainability angle to Art Explorium, as they try to offer “found” objects for art materials (bottle caps, fabric scraps, toilet paper rolls, corks, buttons, etc.).

For the next three Monday afternoons there are some great guest artists who will be there during Open Studio time:

  • ·         April 22 (Earth Day) Aunty Lani will be working with kids to create planters
  • ·         April 29 Malia Lagaso will do Boys/Children’s Day activities
  • ·         May 6 Cade Roster will be helping kids create their own board games and characters with their own themes (princess, fantasy, jungle, etc.).

And, hey, just in time for Mother’s Day, there’s a succulent plant design workshop so keiki can make a special gift for Mom:

Art Explorium is located near Jose’s Mexican Cafe, at 1142 Koko Head Avenue. For more information, go to www.artexplorium.org.
