Photos by Jordan Modeiros, styling by Silvana Alfonso

Silvana Alfonso, owner of Mod.vintage in Kaimuki, is a true Renaissance Woman. I first knew her as a DJ, then she began bringing Italian films and food into ARTS at Marks.

Every time I saw her, whether walking down the block in Chinatown or attending an art opening, she looked chic in an attractive, unique,  individualistic way. So I wasn’t surprised at all when she opened Mod.vintage. Now she’s having fun styling models in her vintage attire and I am so happy to be able to share this recent work with my readers. Enjoy!

These are all, of course, one of a kind pieces and may have been sold already. However Silvana is always getting new merchandise in from her sister in Europe and her forays to the mainland. Do stop in whenever you’re in Kaimuki.

Do you have fond – or dreaded – memories of your own fashion in the ’70s? If so, please share it with me! I was very much out of the fashion scene during that decade, as I lived in Botswana, Nigeria and Western Pennsylvania through most of it. For me it was all about modest long skirts, maternity dresses and then wool coats for me and snowsuits for Duncan.
