Allie Lee and Kyle Kagamida shopped at Goodwill for this entire ensemble. Amazing finds! and beautiful styling! Photos by Jerry Mayfield

By all accounts last night’s first Goodwill Goes Glam event was a resounding success. There were 700 attendees for the gala evening of cocktails, dinner, a fabulous fashion show and extraordinary shopping.

I was so proud to be part of the event, serving as the emcee for the fashion show, “Elements of Goodwill.” It was a two-part show and each part was closely tied to the mission and philosophy of Goodwill Industries of Hawaii. Hats off to Amanda Stevens for pulling off a flawless show that was much appreciated by the audience. The audience, by the way, included Governor Neil Abercrombie (who was showing great pride in his wife, Dr. Nancie Caraway, the honorary chair of the event), Ben and Vicky Cayetano, M.R.C. Geenwood, the fashion faculties of HCC and U.H.-Manoa and many major company CEOs.

Crystal Pancipanci of Panci Style went sassy with this fun ensemble.

The first segment of the fashion show featured an outfit by each of the 2012 graduating seniors from the fashion department (APDM) at U.H. Manoa. The students were given $50 and 50 minutes to shop a Goodwill store to find the materials to create their outfits. The outfits represented a wide range of time periods which made for an extra-fun segment to watch. The students proved that you can find – and refurbish – amazing things at Goodwill stores.

Some of the U.H. Manoa students posed with Andy South and me after the show. My LBD is from Goodwill Kaimuki and my shoes are also a Goodwill Kaimuki find. $12 for both!

The second part of the fashion show was created by five stylists who shopped Goodwill stores for three months to find their fashions. The theme was the elements, with Reise Kochi portraying Earth, Crystal Pancipanci with Wind, Rene Rodriguez with Fire and Kyle Kagamida and Allie Lee with Water.

Models were from all over the map: professionals, students, and even employees of Goodwill, some of whom looked like professionals! They all did their stylists proud. (I later learned that two of the Goodwill employees are about to be signed on at a modeling agency – you never know what unexpected bonuses will come out of a fabulous event like this!)

Yikes! I’m having  all sorts of problems with the uploading of photos to the blog and I don’t think you want to turn your head 90 degrees to see teh horizontal photos go vertical – so pau for now and I’ll see if i can get them to work another day!
