I’ve been thinking a lot about lei recently and how meaningful they are in our lives in Hawaii. The thoughts came after I learned of the passing of Amelia Bailey, a woman who personified the beauty of lei and flowers to me. She taught so many people how to make lei po’o at the Punahou Carnival, as well as graciously making lei for countless weddings, anniversaries and other joyous occasions. Her beauty, talent and generous spirit will be sadly missed, especially this Lei Day and during Punahou Carnival.
