Maybe it was the energized TV commercials. Maybe it was the blast of bold color, stripes and color blocking, three of the season’s hottest trends. Or maybe it was just the magical name of Missoni, the storied Italian knitwear house. Whatever it was, the Missoni for Target collection seems to have broken all records for blowing out of stores and online.

Honolulu makeup artist Liz Dahl called me before noon to say that she had just scored a couple of pieces at Target but not to bother to hele out there; they were all sold out.

Not only that, she had tried to shop online, only to learn that the entire web site had crashed due to overload!

I got to Target around 11 am and was told everything was sold out in the first 20 minutes. Apparently, Target did not put any limit on the number of items you could purchase so some people were just sweeping items off the shelf into their cart. About a half hour later, I found one of the shelves being restocked (candles, vases, organizational containers). I got a few things but everything was gone in minutes. Very frustrating as we don’t know if they have more Missoni to put out for sale.

Kyle and I went to the Salt Lake store at opening. I got there at precisely 8:03 and about 60% of the stock on the shelves were gone. The collaboration runs through mid-October, and they’re most likely restocking some of it.
