The first Eat the Street event in Honolulu was outrageously successful. Just one anecdote helps tell the story:

Kawehi Haug and Nick Gervais, who were my colleagues working in the Island Life section of The Honolulu Advertiser, have switched careers and are now making yummy cupcakes under the moniker Let The Eat Cupcakes. They prepared 250 cupcakes for Eat the Street and sold out in about an hour. They said they could have sold at least 1,000 cupcakes that night.

That was a signal the organizers were onto something – and that they needed room to grow. Now Eat the Street has partnered with Kamehameha Schools and Nonstophonolulu.com (each of which also involves former Honolulu Advertiser employees) to do juts that: help the event to grow. Here’s some info they sent me:

“In Partnership with Kamehameha Schools, Kamehameha Schools Malama Card and Nonstophonolulu.com we are excited to announce our 2nd Eat The Street located at 555 South St. in Kaka’ako.

This event will include almost twice as many vendors, twice as much space and parking!!

To get those taste buds ready Nonstophonolulu.com will be sharing more information about each vendor starting  2/21.  So stay tuned to their site and save the date!!

We are also excited to announce that we are working toward making Eat The Street a sustainable event.  To do this we have enlisted the help of www.tr3ees.com to ensure that our overall impact and waste are at minimum.  Eventually we hope to see Eat The Street as a Zero Waste event.
