I am saddened to report that one of my favorite Honolulu boutiques, Chelsea, is closing after 26 years in business – 24 in Manoa and two in Ward Warehouse. But I’m also happy to hear that owner Naomi Loewe is taking a much deserved retirement. The multi-talented entrepreneur will now be able to pursue her many artistic abilities such as ikebana. And, of course, spend more time with her delightful husband.
I must say that my semi-retirement has been a blessing to me, especially with the deaths of my mother and brother. I have time to perform the many tasks involved with death without feeling crazily pressured for time. (Especially since Malama Palama, which I co-chaired, is pau.) Naomi has always been active in the community as well and I’m anxious to see how her priorities evolve.
Naomi is giving us all a Thanksgiving gift with a huge sale starting Thursday, November 21. All clothing, jewelry, home decor and display fixtures will be on sale with discounts of up to 80 percent of the original prices.
I plan to run down to Chelsea today and buy some of my favorite travel pants, by Clara Sun Woo. Naomi, a former flight attendant with United Airlines, has always bought fantastic travel clothes!
Mahalo, Naomi, and wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement!
