"Chili," a mixed media work by Paula Rath, capturing the flavor of the spice as it travels through the body.

Please visit me – and a few of my paintings – at the Louis Pohl Gallery First Friday, June 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. I just completed a diptych inspired by the last eclipse of the moon and it’s quite a departure for me. I am also showing two Flutter-Bye paintings that I am fond of because they make me smile. Hope they’ll make you smile too!

Just across the street (and a little mauka) of the Louis Pohl Gallery is Fashionista’s Market, 1185 Bethel St. For First Friday they have a trunk show of pop art-inspired, hand-painted mesh hats by German Cardona from 7-10 p.m.. In addition, they’ll be serving up mint chocolate, oreo and strawberry cheesecake cake pops by Shara’s Sweets from 5-9 p.m.

Florencia Arias, located at 1161 Nuuanu Ave., will open up some $20 bins, as well as offering 10 to 50% markdowns on her logo clothing and 20% off all of her jewelry collections. First Friday hours are  5 to 10 p.m.

Across the street at La Muse, 1156 Nuuanu Ave., clever and creative owner Julia Chu has asked Cherry Blossom Cabaret to act as live mannequins from 8 to 10 p.m. She’s also offering discounts of 10 to 30% off select jewelry and swimwear.
