Having long(er) hair for the first time since the ’70s, I am always on the lookout for pretty hair accessories. I was surprised at how little I could find in NYC…except for the Madison Avenue store with exquisite hair accessories from France with prices that started at $250. Uh, I don’t think so!

I have discovered that one of the hardest things to find here – and everywhere – is cute hair bands. Nordstrom has a nice collection of fabric and ribbon headbands, often adorned with bling and feathers, but nothing really simple and everyday.

Enter Mona Lisa, the designer from Maui whose line is called Geisha Fabulous. She has just introduced hand forged semi-precious and precious metal headbands that catch the light and make hair twinkle ($100-$120). They’re a nice addition to her charming enamel flower headbands.

Mona Lisa Tiare hair clips.

Another new design at Geisha Fabulous is the one-inch Tiare blossom hair clip with pearlized seashell center ($20). I just might have to get that one for my lovely niece, Tiare Rath.

You can find Geisha Fabulous at www.monalisadesign.com or in Madison & Co.’s Waipio and Kailua boutiques.
