Andy South is presenting a special event for First Friday, August 5, from 5 p.m. until the party ends.

Billed as “Andy South’s Fashion Journey,” it’s a celebration of Andy’s success as a fashion designer as well as a fund raiser for the Pacific Gateway Center (PGC).

As you probably know by now, Andy was born in Kailua of Laotian parents who had fled persecution in their home country. They were assisted by the PGC, which has helped more than 50,000 refugees, immigrants and low income people in Hawaii over the past 35 years. The Center operates two incubators for people who want to build skills that will lead to self-sufficiency. PGC always maintains respect for the diverse cultural heritages of the people it serves.

Lemon Grass Cafe, a project of PGC, will be the site for the event. The  restaurant will be transformed into Andy’s design studio just for First Friday. A retrospective of Andy’s designs will be displayed on mannequins and the Project Runway season 8 designer will be there to answer questions and offer photo opportuniites.

A one-of-a-kind dress designed by Andy will be sold as part of a silent auction to benefit PGC. Bids will be taken until 8:30 p.m.

In addition, Andy’s career, from working on his family’s farm to launching his first collection (fall 2011, scheduled for September) in Neiman Marcus Ala Moana, will be chronicled in a video shown during the evening.

Ever the chameleon, this is Andy's latest look.

The Lemon Grass Cafe will be offering Andy’s favorite drink, food and music.

PGC is located at 83 N. King Street. Parking for First Friday will be available at nearby garages in Marin Tower, Chinatown Gateway and Kekaulike Mall. For more information about PGC, call 851-7010.
